Ragdoll Patterns
Colorpoint
They have color on ALL Points - including their feet. Pointed Ragdolls have an allele on their Haircoat gene that causes their color to develop over 2 to 3 years where the HEAT from their body is dissipated the most.
Colorpointed Genotypes:
White Spotting Factor: ss (double recessive for NO white)
Phenotype: Colorpointed
Traditional - cs/cs (double recessive for Siamese haircoat type) Eye color = blue
Mink - cs/cb (Homogeneously recessive for Siamese and Burmese haircoat type) Eye color = aqua
Sepia - cb/cb (double recessive for Burmese haircoat type) Eye color = Turquoise
Solid Color
They are born ONE color and have no points. This is the Solid gene is a dominant Gene. Solid Ragdolls do not have the allele, therefore they are the color they will be when they are born. This gene is a pattern, but is related to their haircoat type. That means you can have a Solid, Solid mitted, or a Solid Bicolor Ragdoll.
Solid Genotype: CC (homogeneous dominant solid), Ccs (Solid carrying Siamese), Ccb (Solid carrying Burmese).
Mitted
Mitted is a gene is a dominant that is passed from at least one parent. If you have a mitted gene from BOTH parents, gene typically they are a “High Mitted”, but phenotpyically they look the same as a Bicolor Ragdoll.\
Colorpointed Genotypes:
White Spotting Factor: S2 s = mitted (some white)
Phenotype: Mitted
Tortie
This is the Calico Gene that was brought into the Ragdolls. It is a color, but also a pattern.
Bicolor
Bicolor Ragdolls have higher mittens (thigh highs) and a reverse “V” on their face above their nose. Genetically, these kittens are “bicolor” OR “high mitted”. Essentially, they look the same. It is more difficult to have a high mitted kitten than a bicolor kitten. The only difference is high mitted parents will have ALL Mitted offspring and Bicolor parents will have 50/50 bicolors and colorpoints.
Colorpointed Genotypes:
White Spotting Factor:
S2 S2 = High Mitted (More white)
S4 s = True Bicolor (More white)
Phenotype: Bicolor
Lynx
This is the Calico Gene that was brought into the Ragdolls. It is the tiger / stripe pattern.
